Multiple Arrests Amid Chaotic Scenes at Melbourne Anti-Lockdown Protest

Police in Melbourne arrested 44 people as thousands of anti-lockdown protesters caused chaos for a second day running on Tuesday, September 21.

Numerous protesters were seen in construction gear, as the rallies came in the wake of a two-week shutdown of building sites. They were joined by groups opposed to the wider lockdown in Victoria, and vaccine mandates.

Videos on social media showed flares being lit and police cars being attacked, while this video shows a crowd on the city’s Westgate Bridge.

In a statement, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said there was “no excuse for the terrible behaviour” during protests in the city on Monday and Tuesday.

“Acts of violence and disruption won’t result in one less case of Covid – in fact it only helps the virus to spread,” he added. Credit: @az_asx via Storyful
