National Guard Throw Rope to Migrants Caught in Rio Grande Current

A National Guardsman monitoring a section of the Rio Grande threw a rope to migrants caught in the river’s current on September 22.

This footage shot by Michael Ojo near Acuna, Mexico, shows a person drifting down the Rio Grande as others try to catch them. A guardsman standing on the Texan riverbank throws them a rope and they can be seen moving to safety.

The video also shows migrants crossing back and forth across the river. News outlets reported instances of migrants crossing back into Mexico “to stock up on essentials they say they are not receiving on the American side.” Credit: Michael Ojo via Storyful
