'Near Zero Visibility' in Oswego as Blizzard-Like Conditions Strike Region

Lake-effect snow coupled with strong winds created blizzard conditions along Lake Ontario in New York, on Thursday, February 27, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS forecast three to four feet of snow to collect across the Tug Hill Plateau in upstate New York, with one to two feet projected in areas of lower elevation. Winds up to 60 mph were forecast to cause “extensive” blowing and drifting snow in the area.

The blizzard warning shut down more than a dozens schools in upstate New York, including classes at the State University of New York at Oswego. The university canceled all classes from noon onward at both the Oswego and Syracuse campuses on Thursday due to the weather.
