Wearing a white face mask with red and blue ear loops which represent the colours of the French flag, Paris 2024's Estanguet greeted Hashimoto on Thursday (August 5), congratulating her on an "impressive" games.

Hashimoto gifted the 2020 Summer Olympics torch to Estanguet, who in return presented a marathon bib with "2024, en route pour les jeux Paris 2024" ("2024, en route to the Paris 2024 Games") emblazoned on it.

"Congratulations on everything that you've done so far - it's been amazing and impressive how much you were able to achieve such a fantastic games under such difficult context. I often say you deserve the gold medal for adaptation. Because it's very impressive," said Estanguet to Hashimoto.
