Police Say 'Anti-Hooning' Laws Crucial in Charging Queensland Suspect Over Burnouts in Industrial Park

Queensland Police said a man had been charged after a vehicle was seen performing multiple burnouts in an industrial area near Caloundra on October 16.

The vehicle, a Nissan Coupe, was witnessed being driven dangerously and causing damage to the road along Claude Boyd Parade in Bells Creek on October 16, police said. The Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol issued a search warrant for a Caloundra address. The Nissan was located on the premises and seized.

A 39-year-old man from Little Mountain was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and willful damage. He was due to appear in court on November 1.

Police said this was the first time a person has been charged on the Sunshine Coast under new so-called anti-hooning legislation passed in April.

Police said laws were “strengthened to hold the registered owner of a vehicle responsible for any hooning activity carried out in that vehicle.”
