Protective Cow Elk Lunges at Pedestrians in Colorado

Reports of an aggressive cow elk in Evergreen, Colorado, prompted wildlife officers to warn that this was the time of year when cow elk will be exhibiting “normal protective behavior of their young”.

Footage of the elk chasing and lunging at pedestrians was captured by Christie Greene, who runs a local nonprofit organization called Wild Aware.

“People run off by the elk were warned by me personally to avoid the area and ignored the warning,” Greene told Storyful.

“The elk come to the lake to have their babies every spring and they are about to swim their babies across the water to shore to then go into Evergreen to forage,” she said. Credit: Christie Greene via Storyful
