Protesters Take to New York City Streets as Vaccine Mandate for Teachers Goes Ahead

Protesters marched through Manhattan, New York City, on the evening of Monday, September 27.

The protests came as a federal appeals panel said a vaccine mandate for public school staff and educators would go ahead as scheduled, reversing an earlier decision to pause it, the New York Times, reported. Teachers and school staff now have until Friday, October 1, to get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the New York City Mayor, at least 90 percent of teachers and 87 percent of Department of Education staff have already been vaccinated.
