Remains of Aztec Temple Found in Mexico City

Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) confirmed on June 7 that the remains of an Aztec temple more than 500 years old and dedicated to the god of wind Ehécatl had been discovered in the center of Mexico City.

Archaelogist Raúl Barrera said the temple, and a ball court nearby that was excavated in 2014, were used between 1481 and 1519, INAH said. The temple of Ehécatl, the remains of which were first found in 2010, faced the Templo Mayor, or main temple, in the Aztec’s capital city of Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City.
