Satellite Images Show Migrants at Del Rio Border Crossing

The mayor of Del Rio, Texas, declared a state of emergency on September 17 as an estimated 12,000 migrants, including many Haitians, remained near an international bridge that crosses the Rio Grande from Mexico into the United States.

Satellite images taken by Maxar on September 18 show migrants camping near the bridge in Del Rio, and crossing at shallow points on the river.

Food and water have become scarce as temperatures soared, local media reported, with people gathering beneath the bridge for shade. Credit: Satellite image ©2021 Maxar Technologies via Storyful
