Satellite Shows Nova Scotia Wildfire Smoke Reaching Northeastern US

Over 16,000 Nova Scotia residents were under evacuation orders on May 30 as a large wildfire burned in the region, officials said.

Satellite footage provided by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere shows wildfire smoke stretching down into the northeastern United States on May 29.

According to Halifax Regional Municipality, the fire destroyed an estimated 200 homes or structures by Tuesday morning.

The Nova Scotia Government warned that “the fire may spread further” by Tuesday afternoon due to high winds. Credit: CIRA via Storyful
