Saxophonist Serenades Liverpool FC With 'Money, Money, Money' as Team Departs Leeds Hotel

A saxophonist performed a rendition of the ABBA song Money, Money, Money as the Liverpool FC boarded their bus in Leeds on April 19. The team faced criticism for its involvement in the newly proposed European Super League.

Liverpool drew their premier league clash with Leeds 1-1 later that evening after T-shirts were left in their dressing room that said ‘Champions League: earn it’ and ‘Football is for the fans.’ The Leeds team was wearing T-shirts with the same messages during their pre-match warmup.

Twelve European soccer teams announced on Sunday that they would be joining the breakaway Super League competition. Another three clubs were projected to join, for a total of 15 founding members. Five additional teams would be allowed to qualify annually, the group said.

In response to the announcement, Liverpool fan group Spion Kop 1906 said on Monday it would remove its flags from The Kop at Anfield. The group had adorned The Kop with flags and banners as a show of support during the pandemic. Credit: Sam Isles via Storyful
