Sky Turns 'Crazy Color' as East Troublesome Fire Threatens Estes Park

The raging East Troublesome wildfire prompted mandatory evacuation orders on Thursday afternoon, October 22, as flames covered more than 125,000 acres by Thursday afternoon, around 196 square miles, according to reports.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office issued a mandatory evacuation order for the western part of Rocky Mountain National Park and western parts of Estes Park. Residents were instructed to evacuate as quickly as possible.

Town officials said all routes into Estes Park had been closed. Rocky Mountain National Park was also closed, and park officials warned that air quality was “hazardous.”

This footage shows the conditions in Estes Park on Thursday. The man taking the video noted the “crazy color” the hazy sky had turned. “It kind of feels like we’re driving toward the apocalypse,” he says in the footage. Credit: @whoismoxie via Storyful
