Small Plane Catches Fire on Runway During No-Gear Landing at Daytona Beach

A small plane was engulfed in flames after performing a no-gear landing at Florida’s Daytona Beach International Airport on February 20.

This video shows flames shooting from the aircraft as it slides across the runway before coming to a stop. Several emergency response vehicles can be seen racing towards the plane as it burns on the tarmac.

According to a local news report, airport spokeswoman Joanne Magley said two people who had been on board the Cessna Citation Mustang were safe.

The airport’s two runways were reportedly reopened a few hours after the incident. They had earlier been closed to remove the plane and clean up spilled fuel.

Dethel Mateo, who works with Yelvington Jet Aviation, recorded the video. He told Storyful that a plane “sliding down the runway in flames is something you don’t see every day here at this airport.” Credit: Dethel Mateo via Storyful
