Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Florida Beach

A flight instructor was forced to make an emergency landing on a beach in Treasure Island, Florida, on January 17 after the engine quit while a student was flying the plane. Trevor Thompson, who was walking on the beach, captured this footage.

According to Bay News 9, the student pilot was in control of the airborne craft for only about 15 to 20 minutes before the engine gave out and the instructor pilot, Jenna Dunay, had to take over.

Once Dunay took over control of the plane she determined they would not be able to make it back to the airport so she needed to land the plane on the beach, according to local news reports.

The footage shows the moment the plane lands on the sand, skids, and clips a pole before coming to a stop.

According to local news reports, neither the student nor instructor required any serious medical attention. Credit: Trevor Thompson via Storyful
