Smoke and Flames Pour from Sewers in California Fires

Smoke and flames poured from underground sewers in Porter Ranch, California, as residents were evacuated in the face of the advancing Saddleridge fire.

In this video, taken on Friday, October 11, as the out-of-control fires approached the San Fernando Valley neighbourhood, fire could be seen coming from the drains and manholes in a retail center parking lot.

More than 100,000 people were told to evacuate the Californian region, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, as wind-fuelled flames swept through the area, although more than two-fifths of the blaze has since been contained.

At least 31 homes have reportedly been destroyed in the fire, which burned through almost 8,000 acres. Credit: Matt DeJoy via Storyful
