Students in West of Ireland City Condemned After Hundreds Gather, Despite Rising COVID Numbers

Officials including the city mayor, as well as the local university, were strongly critical as hundreds of young people congregated in Galway’s city center on September 28, despite concerns about the increase of COVID-19 infections in Ireland.

This footage shows a large group on Shop Street in Galway. Local reports said many others gathered near the Spanish Arch on Monday night.

Galway Senator Ollie Crowe reportedly called for the army to be brought in to assist police. NUI Galway described the scenes, which were reported to involve large numbers of students, as “deplorable”. Credit: @ShifiStarkid via Storyful
