'Tiger Dam' Built Near Abbotsford to Hold Back Flooding Sumas River in British Columbia

A temporary flood protection levy, also known as a “Tiger Dam”, was set up near Abbotsford in British Columbia on November 28 to protect the city from the imminent threat of flooding from the Sumas River.

Teams from the Canadian Military, local police, Abbotsford Fire Department, BC Transportation and an indigenous-owned construction company combined to put the levy together, according to BC Transporation.

Residents in parts of Abbotsford were ordered to evacuate on November 30 amid rising floodwaters.
