Tourists visit sand nativity scene in Gran Canaria

Eight artists from different countries finished on Friday (December 3) the nativity scenes after a week on the island.

Artists have been coming from all over the world since 2006 to take part in the event to mark the start of the Christmas season, with the added bonus of warm weather and a balmy 22 degrees Celsius (72 Fahrenheit) temperature.

The exhibition attracts thousands of visitors every year and in the past 15 years it is estimated that at least 200, 000 people have visited, according to organisers.

A huge wall of sand protects the sculptures which will be dismantled on January 7.
