Toyota announces 2024 Land Cruiser hybrid truck

Toyota is bringing back the Land Cruiser in a new teaser for a hybrid truck. Yahoo Finance Autos Reporter Pras Subramanian breaks down the specs for the 2024 Land Cruiser hybrid.

AKIKO FUJITA: It's been a busy day on your beat today. We got news from Toyota as well kind of going back to its roots with its new hybrid truck. What are the details there?

PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: That's right, Akiko. The iconic Land Cruiser SUV's back. This is a truck that dates back to 1958. It's actually the longest running nameplate, they call it in Toyota. So now, it's coming back. It was discontinued for two years, back now in a slimmer, boxier, more heritage-looking form.

It's a two-row SUV here, not a larger three-row. So that's definitely a big difference from last time. But here, that's better for off-roading, a smaller footprint, better for that kind of activity. So but like you mentioned, also coming with a new hybrid powertrain, a mild hybrid set up here. 300-plus horsepower from a turbo 4 along with electric motor combination, that's pretty good there.

Toyota did not give details on the EPA's estimated mileage. So we don't have that here. But it's got to be more likely better than the V8 car that was there before. And with prices starting around $55,000 US, it's almost a 20 grand cheaper than the outgoing Land Cruiser. So I think it's a good value proposition for those people looking for like a mid-size SUV with a lot of curb appeal.
