Close Call: Falling Tree Almost Hits Traveling SUV in North Carolina

An SUV was almost hit by a falling tree in Durham, North Carolina, on April 14.

Jeffrey Friedlander’s dashcam recorded the moment the SUV, coming from the opposite direction, narrowly escaped the falling tree.

The video shows the vehicle pass under the tree just seconds before it crashes to the ground and brings down traffic lights and electricity lines.

“Wow, that was lucky!” Durham Transportation Department wrote on a Twitter post. The department said it was working to remove the tree, and replace the signal.

Durham’s Urban Forestry Department said the event was caused by the tree’s weak root system, according to reports. Credit: Jeffrey Friedlander via Storyful
