US Coast Guard Ship Fires Warning Shots at Iranian Boats in the Strait of Hormuz

A US Coast Guard vessel fired approximately 30 warning shots in the Strait of Hormuz on May 10 after interpreting the maneuvers of several Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy boats as “unsafe and unprofessional”, the US Navy said.

The US Coast Guard cutter Maui fired after two IRGCN speedboats, from a group of 13, “failed to respond to repeated warnings and closed within 300 yards”, according to NAVCENT.

The Maui was escorting the guided-missile submarine USS Georgia when the incident occurred.

Last month, the US Navy accused the IRGCN of harassment after a vessel unsafely cut across the bow of a US Coast Guard patrol boat. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
