Visitors swarm wrapped Arc de Triomphe

A timelapse published on Tuesday (September 21) showed crowds admiring the 164 foot high, 19th century arch.

After weeks of preparation, where the landmark was covered with 25,000 square meters of plastic warp, the installation officially opened on September 18.

Imagined decades ago in 1961 by the Bulgarian-born Christo, who died in 2020, and his wife and fellow artist Jeanne-Claude, who died in 2009, "L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped" was finally brought to life by Christo's nephew, Vladimir Yavachev at a cost of about $16.54 million.

The installation will be on view until October 3.
