Wall of Flame Rises Behind Greek Beach as Wildfires Spread

Hundreds of residents and vacationers were evacuated from six villages on the island of Evia on Tuesday, as a wildfire raged in the area of Limni, on its western coast, local media reported.

According to Ekathimerini.com, Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos announced a state of emergency for Limni.

Firefighters worked through the night in an attempt to contain the fire, Spanos said on Facebook.

Residents were told to evacuate from multiple areas due to the threat, with the fire continuing to spread on the morning of August 4, according to local reports. Credit: Luke Strutt via Storyful
