Wildfire Prompts Evacuations in Sicily

Around 100 people evacuated their homes in the Altofonte area of Palermo, Sicily, on August 30 due to a wildfire burning since August 29.

This footage, shared by the fire and rescue service, shows firefighters dousing flames and some of the damage caused.

Local news reports said fires broke out in five different areas at around 9 pm on August 29.

Fire officials said on Twitter that Canadair aircraft joined firefighting efforts from dawn on August 30.

Altofonte Mayor Angela De Luca said on Facebook the situation remained “serious.” Credit: Vigili del Fuoco via Storyful
