Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, said on June 29 that a Nigerian woman with appendicitis was evacuated from a Spanish migrant-rescue vessels in the Mediterranean.

The woman was taken from the Rio Segura onto an Italian coastguard ship, according to Frontex.

Frontex said on Wednesday that five vessels, the Swedish KBV 002, Spanish Rio Segura and Maltese P62, as well as two Italian vessels co-financed by Frontex, were taking part in the Triton rescue operation, and had rescued 2,700 people since Sunday. In total, Frontex said, 10,000 people had been rescued in the three days up to Wednesday, “the largest number of people rescued within such a brief span so far this year.” Credit: Frontex via Storyful
