Sony Attack: What Secrets Did Hackers Reveal?

Sony (Swiss: SONC.SW - news) 's network was hacked on 25 November and the culprits, calling themselves Guardians of Peace, stole tens of thousands of internal documents and emails.

They threatened to make documents public if the studio released The Interview, a film about a fictional assassination attempt on North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un.

Sony have now decided to cancel the film's release after the hackers made good on that threat.

The documents are said to show:

:: Emails between Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin that list films Barack Obama must like because they star African Americans.

:: Angelina Jolie was called a "minimally talented spoiled brat" by Mr Rudin because of her demands during a remake of Cleopatra.

:: Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence was paid considerably less than her male American Hustle co-stars.

:: In an email to Amy Pascal, George Clooney reveals how upset he was over the reviews of his film The Monuments Men.

:: Sony CEO Michael Lynton routinely received copies of his passwords in unsecure emails for his and his family's mail, banking and shopping accounts.

:: The hackers released what producers confirmed was an early version of the script to the next James Bond film, Spectre.

:: Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin suggested in leaked emails that the Best Actor Oscar was more hard-earned than the Actress award.

He criticised the media for reporting details of the stolen emails in a New York Times article.

Sorkin said: "As demented and criminal as it is, at least the hackers are doing it for a cause. The press is doing it for a nickel."

:: Several former Sony employees have begun US lawsuits against the company for failing to protect their personal data.
