Subway Hackers Get $40,000 In Free Sandwiches

A man who hacked Subway tills to obtain sandwich gift cards worth $40,000 (£23,000) faces jail.

Shahin Abdollahi has admitted his role in a conspiracy to hack into the computerised cash registers of a number of the sandwich restaurants.

He was accused of selling point-of-sale terminals to at least 13 Subway stores with remote login software called LogMeIn (NasdaqGS: LOGM - news) installed.

He and another defendant - 37-year-old Jeffrey Wilkinson - are said to have accessed the systems using the software when the stores were closed.

They would then load cash values onto Subway gift cards, before selling them on eBay and Craigslist or using them themselves, the indictment said.

Abdollahi, also known as Sean Holdt, 46, of California, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and wire fraud.

Charges were first filed in March 2013, and he will be sentenced in August.

Prior to selling the sales terminals, Abdollahi was himself a Subway franchisee.

Wilkinson pleaded guilty in February and will be sentenced later this month.

The scam allegedly began in 2011, and was investigated by the US Secret Service.
