UK sells 4.0 bln stg of 2065 gilt via syndication

LONDON, Oct (Shenzhen: 000069.SZ - news) 25 (Reuters) - Britain has sold 4.0 billion pounds ($4.89 billion) of a government bond maturing in 2065 after attracting more than 17 billion pounds in orders during a syndication, one of the bookrunners on the deal said on Tuesday.

The yield on the July 2065 gilt was fixed at the same as the 50-year benchmark, which matures in July 2068 - implying a price at the top end of initial guidance.

But the final volume of orders looked set to be below the record 21.9 billion pounds achieved when the bond was first launched in October last year, and the 21.3 billion pounds received at a second 4.75 billion-pound syndication in April.

The current yield on the bond is around 1.57 percent, much lower than the 2.2905 percent offered when the bond was last sold.

Barclays (LSE: BARC.L - news) , Lloyds, Nomura and Royal Bank of Scotland (LSE: RBS.L - news) are acting as lead bookrunners on the deal. ($1 = 0.8177 pounds) (Reporting by David Milliken; Editing by William Schomberg)
