Britain throws weight behind NATO as bulwark against Russia

LONDON (Reuters) - British foreign minister Dominic Raab will throw his support behind NATO as "a strong, united, political bulwark against Moscow's de-stabilising activities", rallying allies to thwart what he said was the threat posed by Russia.

Attending a meeting of the U.S.-led military alliance on Wednesday, Raab will underline Britain's assessment that Russia poses the "most acute threat" as set out in a document laying out its post-Brexit foreign priorities last week.

Since completing its exit from the European Union at the end of last year, Britain is keen to make its voice heard on the international stage, but some critics say it is much less powerful since leaving the multi-member bloc.

"The UK, as a leading defence and diplomatic power, fully backs NATO as a strong military deterrent to the threats from Russia but also as a strong, united, political bulwark against Moscow’s de-stabilising activities," Raab said in a statement before the meeting.
