I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a terrible over-packer. However, last weekend, I went on a ski trip to Stratton, Vermont, and with all of my ski gear in tow, I didn’t have the option to stuff a large suitcase with tons of outfits. Instead, I methodically planned each of my looks for the three nights away. Of course, I’m glad I packed my ski pants and jacket — that’s a given. But I’m also glad I packed a few extra pairs of leggings.

This was one of my first trips to Stratton, so I wasn’t exactly sure what the vibe was. Although, if you’re going, you should know it’s pretty casual. Most people are in ski gear, leggings and fleece, even when they’re not on the slopes. (By the way, do yourself a favor, and go straight to Grizzly’s when the lifts close for an early evening of singing and dancing to live music.) I packed jeans and heeled booties and felt completely out of place the one night I decided to wear them, even at a nicer restaurant.

Nonetheless, here are the items I’m really glad I packed for the weekend in Stratton, from ski pants and leggings to a cozy sweater.

This puffer coat will keep you warm all day long.
$495 at Halfdays

This coat is so cozy! Unfortunately, if you like the oat milk color, it’s currently sold out in most sizes. However, I ended up sharing a gondola up the mountain with another girl wearing the same coat in sage green, and it was super cute. I ordered my usual size, which worked well with my base layers. However, I kind of wish I had gone up a size so that it didn’t fit as snugly when I wore it over a chunky sweater.

These slim fit pants hug your curves and move with you as you ski.
$275 at Halfdays

Of course, I had to get the matching pants. These soft-shell pants are great for skiing later in the season when it’s a bit warmer. However, I wore them in below-freezing temps and was not cold at all. I loved how flexible they were without being overly baggy. In fact, I love them so much that I just ordered a second pair in alpine green for my next ski trip.

This super soft turtleneck comes in three colors.
$40 at DICK'S Sporting Goods

I would love to be the girl who pairs her ski outfit with cute fair isle sweaters, but I found it’s nearly impossible to pack all of those unless you take a ton of luggage with you. Instead, for packing reasons — and for warmth — I stuck with sleek, black base layers. DICK’S Sporting Goods’ own line, DSG, has a bunch of great options. I got a few black tops and simple black base leggings for the season, including this cold-weather compression turtleneck. It’s super soft, stretchy and, most importantly, warm.

These aren't your traditional UGGs, but they're still warm and comfy.
$175 at UGG

I scored these boots on sale, and you can, too, still. They’re obviously not your classic UGG style, but I’ve found that they’re better in the snow, thanks to the added traction on the soles. Like regular UGGs, though, they’re incredibly warm and comfy. Of course, I get that the look isn’t for everyone — are they ugly, or are they cute? However, I got tons of compliments on them, and for what it’s worth, I found two other girls in town wearing the exact same style.

You'll want to get this fleece pullover in every color.
$99 at L.L. Bean

A comfy sherpa fleece that’s a little bit oversized became my go-to for wearing with leggings this winter. Personally, I purchased one with leather trim from Tuckernuck in black and sage green at the beginning of the season — but both are currently sold out. However, this L.L. Bean fleece pullover comes pretty close in terms of style. I like to wear mine out for aprés-ski drinks with my ski pants or leggings and snow boots.

Banana Republic
This is the perfect cozy tunic sweater to wear with leggings.
$95 at Banana Republic

This long tunic sweater paired perfectly with black leggings for a night out on the town. I paired them with my UGG snow boots and fit right in.

If you're looking for super soft, durable leggings — these are them.
$98 at Alo Yoga

Here are the leggings I was talking about! These are my go-to for pairing with oversized sweaters throughout the winter. They have a slight compression, and they’re so soft and comfy. They’re also the perfect amount of thickness, so they’re pretty warm and never see-through.
