STORY: Louisiana was sued on Monday over its new law requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms in the state. The complaint said displaying the Ten Commandments violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Jeff Sims, a pastor with children in Louisiana public schools, was among the nine families that brought the suit in Louisiana federal court in the capital Baton Rouge. "This new law doesn't just interfere with my and my children's religious freedom. It tramples on it. The separation of church and state means that families get to decide if, when and how their children should be introduced to religious scripture and texts, not the state." Louisiana became the only U.S. state requiring displays of the Ten Commandments when Republican Governor Jeff Landry signed the law last week.
