20 Bathroom Cabinet Ideas You Have to TryNicole Franzen

Toilet paper, towels, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. These are just four of the nearly endless number of items that people want to keep close at hand but out of sight in their bathrooms. Thankfully, you don’t have to jeopardize style when it comes to the cabinets that keep all of these necessities well ordered. In fact, think of it as an opportunity to be bold and think outside of the proverbial powder room box, suggests ELLE DECOR A-List designer Ford Huniford. Case in point: Huniford used a powder room in Westchester County, New York, as an opportunity to play on an English interior aesthetic and add texture to the space by hanging café curtains from a wood vanity.

But that’s just one of many ways to be clever with your bathroom cabinets. For example, Huniford suggests incorporating finishes to complement fittings, bringing in mosaics or marble for added detail, or even giving a vanity legs to create a sense of airiness. From mirrored fronts to funky hardware to winsome café curtains, here are 20 creative bathroom cabinet ideas for creating the bathroom of your dreams. Don’t forget: “Organization, function, and practicality are first and foremost,” Huniford says.

Stone Cabinetry

Haven't you heard? Stone is all the rage at the moment. And nowhere do we need better proof to hop on this design trend than the vanity in the primary bathroom of a Hamptons home, designed by Ashe Leandro. Clad in Smoke of London stone, which runs across the floor in a seamless line, this loo is the stuff of designer's daydreams.

Quartzite Cabinets

Architect Celeste Robbins topped the sleek metal cabinets in the primary bathroom of her midcentury Michigan lakehouse with 'Four Seasons' Quartzite. It's an approach that adds a soft touch to an otherwise heavy setting.

Cafe Curtain Cuteness

Ready to think outside of the box when it comes to home decor sourcing? Take notes from Ford Huniford's lovely interpretation of a bathroom in the powder room of Jeffrey Sellers' house in Westchester County. The vanity, originally a vintage table dressed in a mustard yellow cafe curtain, is a creative hack for concealing any clutter.

Warm Wood Cabinets

Black Cabinets

The key to an artfully designed bathroom is knowing when to maximilize and when to minimalize. In a Tortonto home, Kelly Wearstler toggled that balance beautifully, bringing in black cabinetry acts as a backdrop to the statement tiled walls and ceiling.

Gilded Cabinets

When in doubt, add some gilding. That's just what designer Lorenzo Castillo did in the bathroom of this Parisian apartment. The vanity cabinets are encased in mirrored glass with gold trim that adds dimension to the space.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall—which is the loveliest bathroom of all? We hate to pick favorites but when it comes to making the most of a small space, Brazilian designer Juliana Vasconcellos certainly comes to mind. Don't have cabinets? Be resourceful. To make up for a lack of default storage space in a guest bathroom of Paolo Castellarin and Didier Bonnin's country house in Italy, the duo used a vintage towel rack that can tastefully show off a logistical requirement.
