Gas prices are likely to continue climbing through 2022: Here's how to save at the pump

1. Homemade barbecue chips

Barbecue chips are a tried-and-true favorite. Begin by slicing potatoes as thinly as possible into a bowl of cold water using a mandoline. Next, flush the potato slices under the sink until the water becomes clear. Then dry them for five minutes. Heat a pot of oil to 325 degrees Fahrenheit, and fry the potatoes for about four minutes until they’re golden brown. Towel-dry them before seasoning with a mix of granulated sugar, powdered sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder and a pinch of salt.

2. Homemade Doritos

These copycat Doritos taste just as good as the real deal! First, slice corn tortillas into triangle shapes using a knife. Next, fry them at 360 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown. Finally, season with a mix of parmesan cheese, chili powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika and kosher salt before serving.

3. Homemade sour cream and onion chips

Sour cream and onion is a cult classic when it comes to chip flavors. Start by peeling and rinsing potatoes. Next, use a mandoline with a crinkled blade to thinly slice the potatoes into a bowl of water. Wash the potatoes until the water runs clear. Then bring a pot of water to a boil, and cook the potatoes for about five minutes. Transfer the potato slices to a paper towel to dry. Then fry them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown. Transfer the chips to a bowl before seasoning with a mix of salt, dried parsley, buttermilk powder, onion powder, garlic powder and sugar.

4. Homemade Fritos

Ditch the bag and make your own Fritos with this easy recipe. First, slice corn tortillas into strips using a knife, and transfer them to a bowl. Next, cover the tortilla strips in cooking spray. Then sprinkle on some cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder and nutritional yeast. Throw them in the air fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
