Aldi is launching Christmas in June to lift spirits because shoppers "didn't get the Christmas they deserved last year".

On Friday, 25 June, the budget supermarket will welcome #AldiJunemas to allow families separated by December's lockdown to enjoy a Christmas celebration without restrictions. As well as hidden surprises in stores, Aldi will stock mince pies, pigs in blankets and Christmas puddings for customers to pick up.

Posting on Facebook, Aldi said: "Let's be honest, last Christmas didn't have our hearts, and sleigh bells weren't ringing like they usually do. So we think it's time for round two. A proper Christmas where you can hug your nan, get the whole family together and go to town with all the trimmings.

"Just one thing. It's in June. INTRODUCING JUNEMAS. Mark your calendars for June 25th, look out for some surprises in store, and be NICE. #AldiJunemas."

There might not be any sign of Kevin the Carrot returning, but shoppers have praised the supermarket for the new initiative — and many have explained they will be getting involved.

One wrote: "I was in hospital over Christmas with Covid so Christmas wasn't an option in our house. This is a great idea." While another added: "We are having Christmas Day on the 26/06 in the garden (weather permitting). We have saved the real Christmas tree and will get the decorations out again to do Christmas together, as like most we had Covid so didn't get to celebrate."

Will you be joining in with the #AldiJunemas festivities?
