Yahoo Finance Arsenal vs Aston Villa becomes latest Women’s Super League fixture called off over Covid concerns
Arsenal’s clash with Aston Villa this weekend has become the latest Women’s Super League fixture to be postponed over coronavirus concerns.
A club statement confirmed that one player in the Arsenal squad has tested positive for the virus, with several other forced to self-isolate.
“Although initially all of our first-team players tested negative on return from the Christmas break, one player has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 this week,” the statement read,
“As a result, several first team players are now observing a period of self-isolation as a precaution in accordance with FA and UK Government protocol.
“This fixture will be rescheduled and a new date will be announced in due course.”
An outbreak at Manchester City has already seen their meeting with West Ham called off this weekend, with four City players having tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, the virus has also been causing chaos with the men’s FA Cup third round fixture list.
Southampton’s tie against Shrewsbury is off, while Derby County will be forced to field a team of U23 and U18 players against Chorley, and Liverpool’s tie with Aston Villa is in doubt after the Midlands club closed their training ground following a large number of positive cases.
