Austria's Wienerberger agrees to buy British roofing firm BPD
VIENNA, April 1 (Reuters) - Austrian building materials firm Wienerberger, the world's biggest brickmaker, has agreed to buy British roofing company Building Product Design Group for an undisclosed amount, Wienerberger said on Monday.
BPD has more than 200 employees and two production sites in Nottinghamshire and South Wales, a fraction of Wienerberger's 14 plants and 1,400 staff in Britain. BPD had annual revenue of 29.3 million pounds ($38.4 million) in 2018, Wienerberger said.
The Austrian firm recently increased its stock in Britain, its biggest single market, to prepare for potential supply disruptions linked to Brexit. But the decision to buy BPD was not connected to Britain's plans to leave the European Union, a spokeswoman for Wienerberger said.
"BPD's specialist roof accessories are a perfect fit with our existing roof portfolio, helping to fuel future growth throughout the UK and Europe," Wienerberger said in a statement.
BPD's product range includes building ventilation systems and roof underlays.
There are no plans to cut jobs at BPD, the spokeswoman said.
"BPD will become a centre of excellence for innovative roofing solutions within Wienerberger," the Austrian company said in its statement. "BPD will be tasked with developing innovative solutions designed to be implemented and sold across the broader Wienerberger network."
