Sherlock star Lara Pulver is joining The Split family for its third and final season.

With the BBC legal drama currently in production, Radio Times confirmed her casting as child psychologist Kate, whose introduction "aims to add a new layer to the show's discussion of divorce and modern marriage".

Pulver played Irene Adler in Sherlock, and you might also recognise her from stints in True Blood, Spooks, Quantico and The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness.

Meanwhile, The Split creator Abi Morgan shared a few teasers back in February when the final episodes were commissioned.

"It's great to be back writing for the Defoe family, and to dive once more into the complications of their lives and those of their clients," she noted.

"In the final series of this bittersweet trilogy, Hannah faces the heartbreak of her own divorce, and the fight to save her family and her marriage. Siblings clash, past mistakes are exposed and hearts are broken as Noble Hale and Defoe notches up more billable hours in the divorce capital of the world."

Dee Koppang O'Leary, who's recently worked on both The Crown and Bridgerton, will be lead director on the third series.

The Split series one and two are available to stream over on BBC iPlayer in the UK. Viewers in the US can watch past episodes on Sundance Now, where series three will also air. The new series of The Split will also air on SundanceTV in the US.
