The biggest trending interiors of 2018 so far
Ottomans, velvet and dark wood are among the most popular search terms in the world of interiors, proving that a glamorous home is most desirable in 2018, according to new insight from Eporta and WGSN.
The Interiors Trend Report 2018/19, which analyses buying trends and search data among more than 10,000 interior trade buyers over the past year, reveals the most sought-after home styles that will be big for the remainder of this year and into 2019.
These are the trends you need to know about...
Fabric
Searches for velvet has risen by 400 per cent in the past six months and trend forecaster WGSN links this to the cocooning trend with a desire for tactility. Suede is also on the increase, while deep and bold colours translate well in velvet, and prints and patterns on walls and carpets using colour and repeats also remain popular.
Colour
Red is the most popular colour ever on Eporta with buyers showing more of an appetite for bold with maximalism and theatrical opulence. The fastest growing colour of the past three months is orange, followed by yellow, with living areas getting more vibrant and an ‘anything goes’ attitude adopted by modern interiors enthusiasts.
Furniture
Ottomans and pouffes are the most popular search terms for the first time on Eporta. The bar console has also seen a rise over the past six months, continuing the trend of seeing the home as a social space. Searches for benches are down by 50 per cent, perhaps seen as too harsh and uncomfortable. Meanwhile, mirrors are the most searched for product ever on the interiors marketplace, with variations appearing as art, statement pieces and alternative hues or finishes.
Materials
Marble and glass (coloured glass and opaque finishes) are on the rise. Copper now has more searches than bronze and gold, and wood remains as popular as ever but blanched wood of 2017 is out and darker hues are in for 2018. This is particularly evident in dining chairs. Rattan is also a material to watch as the last three months has seen a sharp rise in the trend.
