Now is a great time to improve your image (TV image that is), as prices fall on flashy flatscreens during early Black Friday sales.

4K HDR tellies from all the major brands are available with sizeable savings, which is good news if you want to trade up from an old HDTV to a UHD model, get a smart TV with all the trimmings, or simply find a screen for the bedroom.

Read on for our top buys for big screen bargain hunters…

JVC 65-inch Fire TV

This JVC-branded 65-inch 4k model is currently available for £499 at Currys, representing a £100 saving on its list price. The set has Amazon’s Fire TV streaming platform built-in, which means there’s a huge number of streaming services available from its colourful interface, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and YouTube.

The screen also has a Freeview Play tuner, ensuring a full fist of catch-up TV services (BBC iPlayer, ITVHub, All4, My5). Naturally it works with Amazon Alexa too.

LG 55-inch OLED TV

LG’s entry-level OLED model gets a healthy £200 off in this Currys deal. Movie fans will love its high-contrast cinematic picture quality with perfect black levels, and support for Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos cinema sound.

This premium performer is also a good choice for gamers, as it features a Game Optimizer allowing you to tune the set for the best possible gaming experience. The A1 also comes with LG's highly-rated webOS smart platform, boasting all manner of top streaming services, plus Freeview Play for catch-up.

TCL 50-inch Smart 4K Ultra HD TV

This 4K HDR TV from TCL can be picked up for just £299, that’s an awful lot of screen for the cash.

Admittedly the smart platform isn’t particularly well appointed, just Netflix and YouTube (although it does have a Freeview Play tuner with Catch-up TV) so I would suggest you add a Fire TV streaming stick, and there are only two HDMI inputs, but if you can work around that...

Samsung 43-inch Smart QLED TV

This high-end 43-inch Samsung Q65 QLED smart screen is a considerable temptation, at £579. It features a dual LED backlighting system for superior contrast, and has colour-rich wide colour. It also has an advanced sound system. Q-Symphony works in conjunction with select Samsung soundbars for enhanced audio — the TV speakers parp in tandem with the soundbar.

It also has a first class smart TV portal, with a huge number of streaming apps and the option of an Ultra Wide game mode, for PC users.

Philips 50-inch Smart TV 4K

This good-looking Philips 7-series flatscreen has fallen to £499 on Currys for Black Friday, and really stands apart from the rest thanks to Ambilight, Philips unique lighting system. Here in 3-sided guise, LED lights are arranged around the back panel, so that they illuminate the wall behind.

These LEDs can either change to reflect onscreen action, or simply cast a solid wash of colour. The screen itself is 4K with Dolby Vision HDR and offers Dolby Atmos cinematic audio. It also uses the Android smart platform, which has a comprehensive selection of apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and YouTube.
