Breitling Just Dropped a New Tourbillon Watch Inspired by the Ford Mustang

Breitling first introduced the Classic Car series to its popular Top Time line back in 2021. The original lineup included three iterations equipped with ETA movements, but in just two short years, the collection has quickly evolved. Earlier this year, Breitling added the Ford Thunderbird to the line alongside revamped versions of its Ford Mustang, Chevy Corvette, and Shelby Cobra models that got a major upgrade in the form of the brand’s COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 chronograph movement. Now, Breitling is upping the ante again with the addition of a tourbillon.

Last year, Breitling launched the Caliber B21 in its Premier Tourbillon. This movement is particularly unique for its combination of a tourbillon and chronograph in a way that’s distinctly Breitling. The brand developed the caliber with the notable Swiss movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret. It features a column wheel construction with a horizontal clutch and offers COSC certification. In addition, the Caliber B21 features both a skeletonized oscillating weight, allowing a view of the column wheel through the caseback, and a tourbillon crafted from contrasting solid gold. The tourbillon houses the balance wheel, balance spring, and escapement in a rotating cage, setting the entire assembly in perpetual motion and effectively canceling the pull of gravity.

“We are thrilled to introduce a tourbillon to the Top Time Classic Cars series,” says Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO. “There is no better expression of Breitling’s expertise in making precision tool watches that combine functionality with sophistication and style. Like the cars it represents, the Top Time B21 Classic Cars Chronograph Tourbillon is all about its design and its engine.”

Yet, the tourbillon isn’t the only standout feature of the new lineup. For the latest additions to the Top Time Classic Cars collection, Breitling is playing with new materials. The new Ford Mustang variant features a bronze case construction combined with a green dial that matches the color of the first-generation Ford Mustang, produced from 1964 to 1974. Alternatively, the Shelby Cobra version gets a sleek black ceramic case paired with a blue dial. Last but perhaps most unique is the Chevy Corvette model, which uses the same black ceramic case of the Shelby Cobra with the addition of a walnut burl dial. This iteration is complete with a perforated leather racing strap. The combination of the dial and strap draw inspiration from the steering wheel and dashboard inlays of the legendary 1960s “Sting Ray.”

Each of the new Top Time Classic Cars Tourbillon watches is available today and priced at $47,000.
