Brexit stockpiling: Brits share their favourite brands on social media

Worried Britons are sharing their Brexit stockpiles on social media amid food shortage scares.

The Brexit deadline is fast approaching, and with parliament still in a deadlock the odds of Britain crashing out of the EU without a deal seem higher than ever.

The British Retail Consortium has warned a hard Brexit may wreak havoc on supply chains, and result in food and supplies shortages.

While the government has denied this is a possibility, many Brits have gone into consumer panic, bulk buying everything from toilet paper to frozen vegetables.

One woman from Worcester shared images to social media after her husband spent £658 on 144 rolls of toilet paper and over 50 tins of food.

And the availablity of toilet paper in a post-Brexit society has proven to be one of the top concerns for Brits who are stockpiling.

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons, recently revealed the supermarket has seen toilet paper sales increase 7% in the past year, thanks to Brexit concerns. This is reflected on social media, with many Brits admitting to hoarding brands like Andrex and Cushelle.

While some Brits are worried about supplies, others are worried about food.

With many of Britian’s favoured veggies being imported from the EU, some have begun filling their freezers with frozen vegetables. Others have stocked up on non-perishable foods like pasta incase of a “Brexitpocalypse”.

Special K cereal and Aneva oats were among non-perishable items Brits admitted to hoarding on Facebook, alongside treats like Jaffa Cakes and Tesco’s luxury chocolate.

Both dairy and plant-based milks such as oat, almond and soy are also among some of the most-posted about items on Twitter and Instagram.

Tinned foods like Heinz and Corale baked beans, and Morrisons’ everyday essentials chopped tomatoes also made the list.

However, some are more concerned with alcohol, as bottles of Prosecco, Peroni, and various foreign beers are also among items Brits have shared they are stocking up on.
