Budget-friendly Shein releases very unfriendly bodysuit

Not to be upstaged by Fashion Nova, the budget-fashion retailer Shein is facing backlash and ridicule over a new $11 high-cut bodysuitemphasis on the “high-cut.”

From shoulders to waist, the unusual-looking item seems like a normal long-sleeved bodysuit. But the bottom half of the piece is, what one Facebook user called, “awful and painful.”

The cut barely covers anything, and looks so viscerally excruciating to put on and move in that one Twitter user said she was “crying at the thought of how uncomfortable that would be.”

The Daily Mail reported that someone shared the photo on Facebook with the caption, “What is this!?”

“What happened to modesty?” one person commented.

Modesty isn’t necessarily the problem, it’s that there’s no way this bodysuit can fit on a human body. Although after browsing through Shein’s site, it seems as though this is a common style for the brand.

“High cut? That’s cut so damn high it’s practically flossing her teeth,” someone added.

Other users found a striking similarity between the bodysuit and the neon green mankini Sacha Baron Cohen famously wears on the beach in the 2006 movie, “Borat.”

Shein is no stranger to controversy and was recently in hot water in July 2020 after advertising a swastika necklace that the company tried to say was in celebration of the Buddhist symbol for spirituality, not a Nazi swastika. After intense backlash, Shein eventually apologized and pulled the product from the site.

Want to read about more fashion faux pas? Apparently, the future of fashion is $700 shirts that don’t actually exist.
