Camper has close encounter with thirsty lions

One woman’s camping trip took a wild turn she woke up to find a trio of thirsty lions enjoying a drink from outside her tent.

Francie Francisca Lubbe was recently camping in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a wildlife preserve located between the borders of South Africa and Botswana, when she woke up to the unsettling sight.

In a post to the Facebook group Kgalagadi Sightings, Lubbe shared images and video of her up close encounter explaining the lions had arrived looking for something to drink.

“What a privilege. It rained during the night and 3 lioness licking the water from the tent,” she writes.

In a video clip the lions can clearly be seen through a mesh lining eagerly licking up water drops collected on the outside surface of the tent. The big cats are so close that one nearly knocks over a bottle of alcohol sitting on a table inside the tent.

Luckily, this unexpected visit from local wildlife ended peacefully after the lionesses eventually drank their fill and moved on.
