Yahoo Finance Report: Ex-college basketball player arrested in Tijuana for alleged murder at strip club
A former Rutgers walk-on and D-II basketball player was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico, this week for allegedly killing a 19-year-old nightclub employee, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Logan Kelley, 26, was arrested on Wednesday night after he was detained by security guards at the Adelita night club in Tijuana. Kelley, per the report, is accused of walking up behind the victim and fatally slicing her neck with a knife while she was speaking with another man in a hallway.
The woman was found dead on the scene by emergency personnel at the bar, which is described as the “most traditional and famous men’s club in Tijuana in operation since 1962.” The bar was reportedly being operated despite local COVID-19 restrictions in place that prohibited it.
A United States State Department official said they were aware of Kelley’s arrest.
“When a U.S. citizen is detained abroad, the State Department provides all appropriate consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we do not have any information to share publicly at this time,” the official said, via the Union-Tribune.
Kelley, who went to high school in New Jersey, walked-on at Rutgers and played in there games during his freshman season in 2012-13, but played just one minute and didn’t score a single point. After a year off, he transferred to Northeastern Colorado Junior College, where he averaged nine points per game that season. He then played one final year at Montevallo, a D-II school in Alabama.
