Coronation Street to air COVID-19 storyline as Aggie works on the front line

From Digital Spy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will reveal how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the Bailey family next week.

Family matriarch Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) is working on the front line at the hospital, leaving her husband Ed worried about how much she's sacrificing for her job.

In upcoming episodes, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) starts to become concerned that Aggie is taking on too many nursing shifts.

Wanting to give Aggie a treat, Ed starts planning a surprise for her – a virtual party to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

Meanwhile, Ed also worries when the family's car breaks down, making life more difficult for Aggie and her commute to work.

Mechanic Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) offers some help and agrees that Aggie can borrow Kevin Webster's car in the meantime, as the community is hugely grateful for her work at the hospital.

Later, Aggie makes a video call to Ed and explains that she'll have to self-isolate at a hotel for a while, as one of her colleagues is displaying COVID-19 symptoms.

Ed is dismayed to hear the news, which disrupts the romantic surprise that he'd been planning.

Viewers will notice changes to some of the businesses on the Street, while characters who don't live together will be social distancing.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
