Coronation Street revisits Toyah Battersby's past in Amy Barlow story

Coronation Street's Toyah Battersby revisits her traumatic past next week as she offers her support to Amy Barlow.
In scenes airing this Friday (June 16), Amy makes the difficult decision to back down from a legal fight with Aaron Sandford after becoming concerned about the huge costs involved in challenging his lawsuit.
The struggling teenager writes a retraction regarding a recent blog post she wrote about Aaron raping her, since Aaron refuses to acknowledge his crime.

Next week, Amy tells Summer that she's determined to start anew now the legal battle is over and she wants to concentrate on her studies after the months of trauma she's been through.
However, when her tutor tells her she has to repeat the entire year because she's so behind on her work, Amy begins to think that dropping out is her best option.
Summer tries to cheer Amy up by reminding her that if she repeats the year, they'll be starting university together. But is this enough to convince Amy?

Later on in the week, Toyah explains to Amy that she understands what she's going through because she was raped too.
In 2001, Toyah was raped and beaten after a night out by a man named Phil Simmonds, who was eventually arrested and sent to prison after the police found his DNA on Toyah's clothes.
Knowing exactly how Amy is feeling, Toyah recommends a counsellor and urges her to book an appointment. But will Amy heed her advice?
