County leaders appoint NEK board members

Apr. 9—Judges-Executive Eric Chaney (Boyd County) and Bobby Hall (Greenup County) each announced 10 members who will represent respective counties on the board for the newly formed Northeast Kentucky Economic Development Authority.

In late January, Chaney and Hall announced the partnership that will handle all economic development opportunities in the counties. The Northeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, rebranded from Ashland Alliance, is now just that — a chamber of commerce that will assist existing businesses.

"We're taking all of our assets and putting them in one basket," Chaney said during Boyd County's fiscal court meeting on Tuesday. "Working together, moving forward together.

"We've built a great team on our end," Chaney added. "Greenup County has done the same. I look forward to what we can do together."

The 10 board members from Boyd County are as follows: Eric Chaney (Judge-Executive), Andrew Steele (Boyd County Tourism and Convention Bureau), Jim King (retired banker), Ben Collier (Local 248), Christie Addington (eXp Realty), Jim Smith (Director of Aviation Maintenance at Marshall University), Scott Martin (Northeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce), Amanda Clark (Kentucky Power), Griffin Mason (Marathon Petroleum) and Dr. Larry Ferguson (ACTC).

Greenup County's 10 board members are as follows: Bobby Hall (Judge-Executive), Drew King (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Matthew Grant (land attorney), Kristie Patterson (business owner), Jeff Dupuy (Luminant Power), Gary Greene (outdoorsman), Jacob Sizemore (Big Sandy Marketing Director), Earnie Duty (Human Resources), Shawn Moore (Russell Vo-Tech Principal) and Traysea Moresea (Greenup County's superintendent).

The board members will serve a four-year term, effective April 1, 2024.

The bylaws are drawn up, according to Hall.

Hall said once the board has its first meeting, an executive board will be established.

The plan is to appoint a director. "We have not decided on that yet," Hall said.
