David Harper Spends US$80k On Geodrill Stock

Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that David Harper, the President of Geodrill Limited (TSE:GEO) recently shelled out CA$80k to buy stock, at CA$2.01 per share. Nevertheless, it only increased their shareholding by a minuscule percentage, and it wasn't a massive purchase by absolute value, either.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Geodrill

In fact, the recent purchase by David Harper was the biggest purchase of Geodrill shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of CA$2.31. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Geodrill is not the only stock insiders are buying. So take a peek at this free list of under-the-radar companies with insider buying.

Does Geodrill Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Geodrill insiders own 49% of the company, currently worth about CA$54m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Do The Geodrill Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Geodrill. That's what I like to see! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. To assist with this, we've discovered 1 warning sign that you should run your eye over to get a better picture of Geodrill.

For the purposes of this article, insiders are those individuals who report their transactions to the relevant regulatory body. We currently account for open market transactions and private dispositions of direct interests only, but not derivative transactions or indirect interests.
