Doctor Who favourite David Tennant, Strictly Come Dancing's Joe Sugg, Rob Brydon and Ariyon Bakare have all joined the upcoming Sky movie The Amazing Maurice.

This newly acquired foursome are in fantastic company, as Game of Thrones's Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke, Hugh Laurie, David Thewlis, Gemma Arterton, Hugh Bonneville and Himesh Patel already signed up for this animated Terry Pratchett adaptation.

Published in 2001 as the 28th entry in Pratchett's iconic Discworld series, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents is a children's book taking more than a little inspiration from the Pied Piper of Hamelin fairytale.

The story itself revolves around Maurice, a sentient cat with a business head. He recruits a young boy and a clan of rats to travel with him and plague different cities, only to get paid to remove the rats under the guise of magic musical skills.

Smart, right?

Further teasing the plot of its new animation, Sky shared: "When Maurice and the rodents reach the stricken town of Bad Blintz, they meet a bookworm, Malicia. Their little con soon goes down the drain as something very bad is waiting for them in the cellars."

While the latest batch of casting announcements didn’t mention what character each actor will voice, we know that Laurie will play the titular cat, Clarke will be Malicia, Thewlis will voice Boss Man, Patel will be Keith, Arterton as Peaches and Bonneville will play the Mayor.

The Amazing Maurice premieres on Sky Cinema next year, with an official date yet to be announced.
