Debenhams' CEO and trading director sell shares after strong H1 results

LONDON (ShareCast) - Debenhams (Other OTC: DBHSF - news) ' chief executive and trading director both sold some of their shares in the retailer on Monday to cover tax and national insurance liability after exercising share options. Chief executive Michael Sharp exercised 307,334 share options from a 2011 performance share plan and subsequently sold 144,975 shares for an individual price of 87p, bringing home a total of £126,128.

Meanwhile, group trading director Suzanne Harlow exercised 83,236 share options and sold 39,265 of her shares for the same price, raising £34,161 in the transaction.

The UK department store chain last week posted its half-year results which were above its forecasts, with like-for-like sales up 1.3% and online sales 12.7% higher.

Sharp said at the time customers responded well to the improved multi-channel offer and the introduction of the premium delivery option.

"Overall we delivered a good first-half performance despite a difficult clothing season in Autumn and we are on track to achieve full-year expectations," he added.
